    Default The Powderkeg Fishing report

Fishing Report for September 2nd 2009

It looks like the fish are starting to wake up from their summer doldrum. With the rain, cooler nights and shorter days, the fish should start moving up into the shallow shoal areas earlier in the evenings and hang around longer in the mornings soon.

Lyman plugs trolled deep are still very effective all over.

Peterhope Lake gave up an 8lb rainbow to a very lucky ( O.K. skilled ) lady fisher on her very own Pumpkin Head variation.

Coquihalla Lake was producing panfry size trout on trolled Bolo Spinners for a happy couple yesterday.

Blue Lake was slow for a couple of keeners last weekend.

The Thompson has ample opportunities for spring salmon right now. Check the regulations to see where it is open. The trout fishing has also been quite good with Stonefly and Caddis dries. Don’t be afraid to try a juicy looking nymph down near the bottom either.

Maybe if I am lucky and can sneak a couple of hours I will see you out there.

And as always till next week, keep your tip up.

Thanks for the report Fred. One month from today and I'll be flailing the waters of Sheridan.

Another variation of the pumpkinhead? It is mindboggling the number of variations that have been brought to my attention over the past year. Good to see. One of the beauties of introducing new patterns is seeing what other tyers come up with to improve a given pattern for personal success.

Mickey Finn? Kinda sounds like the one I use for brookies. Bright yellow tail and body with red grizzly hackle and a red bead. The brookies out here just tear 'em up. The RootBeer is one I've been selling to stores for a couple seasons now and it works better than the original olive more often than not. Another version I fish is a red marabou tail, red hackle, red bead and silver holographic dubbing for the body ala chromie style!

Sorry, isn't a pumpkinhead an olive wooly bugger with an orange bead?
I would say if you change anything it becomes JAWB - just another wooly bugger.:yeah:

It's alllllllll good, Brudda! I'm probably more guilty than most for taking the "mickey" out of fellow members on forums.

By the way, considering the history of the Woolly Bugger, calling the pumpkinhead just another woolly bugger, which indeed it is, is more of a compliment than an insult.

Carry on as you were! Oh my God, Fred, sorry for the hi-jack!
