Subject: FN0647-RECREATIONAL - Salmon: Somass River & Stamp River - 2009 Salmon Opportunities
Effective Saturday August 25 to December 31 in the Somass and Stamp Rivers the
daily limit is:
- two (2) chinook of which only one (1) may be greater than 77 cm and;
- two (2) coho, hatchery marked or unmarked
- the aggregate daily limit is four (4)
In order to protect pre-spawning salmon in the Stamp and Somass Rivers angling
closures are needed in portions of the river.
Effective June 15 until November 15 the following portion of the Stamp River is
closed to angling:
- from boundary signs located approximately 500 meters downstream of Stamp
River Falls fishway to boundary signs located approximately 200 m. upstream
(above) Stamp River Falls fishway.
Effective August 25 until November 15 the following portion of the Somass River
is closed to angling:
- from the tidal boundary at Papermill Dam on the Somass River to boundary
signs approximately 1.0 Km upstream (Falls Rd. Gravel Pit and the Southernmost
end of Collins Farm/Arrow Vale Campground-Hector Rd.).
Effective August 25 to October 31, the following portion of the Stamp River is
closed to angling:
- from boundary signs on either side of the Stamp River located at the inlet to
the Stamp River (hatchery) lagoon continuing downstream approximately 750
meters to boundary signs on either side of the Stamp River.
Effective 00:01 hours Wednesday October 01 until 23:59 hours October 14 the
following portion of the upper Stamp River is closed to all angling:
- from boundary signs on either side of the Stamp River at the Powerline
Crossing downstream approximately 500 meters to boundary signs on either side
of the Stamp River at the inlet to the Stamp River (hatchery) lagoon.
Anglers shall also note:
- there is a bait ban in effect on the Somass and Stamp Rivers. Bait may ONLY
be used November 1 to April 30 downstream of the “Bucket” (approximately 250 m
above the Beaver Creek and Stamp River confluence);
- the use of single barbless hooks is mandatory in all streams within Region 1;
- all fish foul hooked (i.e. hooked other than in the mouth) must be returned
to the river immediately;
- any chinook salmon retained measuring in excess of 50 cm must be recorded on
the reverse side of your Non-Tidal Angling Licence;
- please note the above restrictions are in addition to any other closed area
already in place by regulation.
