Cap. Estuary Aug. Long

Well, finally got back into some coho's at the mouth of the Cap. over the August long weekend.

Chatted with some old timers who said this year is the best they've seen in years.

My hook-up to landing ratio was terrible though! 3 fish in the boat, 11 fish hooked over three mornings. Lost one to a huge seal

Found that the usual trolling off the blue or the pink buildings in West Van had lots of boats but not many willing fish. Did much better up at the mouth between the green lighthouse and the bridge at high tide. Plenty of people fishing from the beach and getting a few, but the better action was from the boat.

3 inch white buzz bombs seemed to be the trick, either casted or just dropped down and jigged.

I even managed to hook one fish on the fly, though casting a 20 foot leader was not fun with a weighted fly.

Saw a 30lb Spring caught on buzz bombs as well.

Best fishing was at first light.
