The Powderkeg Fishing Report for Aug 5th, 2009
It looks like the dog days of summer are here.
With water temperatures up the fish tend to stay down. Early morning and late evenings are the best times to find fish at reasonable depths on the shoals.
At this time of the year with most of the major hatches over and done with we are back to staple food sources for our finny friends. Blood worms have once again been producing. Fish them deep and almost right on the bottom.
The Thompson is still fishing fairly for strong running rainbows. With this cooler weather expected the fishing should pick up. Once again stonefly nymphs are still good and the Hopper fishing is coming on.
With the salmon moving through all of our systems soon the rainbows will be following them for a feast. Get ready for late summer/early fall rainbow fishing with single egg patterns and flesh flies for a little later.
Getting deep while trolling seems to be the key according to several of our good customers. Lead core lines with plug type lures are producing in Nicola and other lakes in the area. Try a Flatfish or Lyman.
Those who are getting out and being patient are still getting some very good fish. Tipping lures with live worms or one of the various artificial concoctions helps the fish to find your lure and stimulates them to take a taste.
Until next week, keep your tip up.
