I'm headed up to the bridge in CR or the Oyster Friday morning and probably most of Saturday as well to look for pinks on the fly. Hopefully we'll land a couple of early "volunteers". I live in Courtenay. PM or respond here if you're interested.

Hey 11th,
This weekend is no good for me, but I will be camping in CR next weekend fri-sun - I have never been to CR or fished there, so if you can stand fishing two weekends in a row, I could stand a fishin buddy.....
Catch and Release -- into my frying pan!
Hey guys thanks for the responses. I took a drive to the Oyster bridge tonight after supper and walked up and down the riverbank. There was a massive hatch going off and there was a buffet dinner surface feed happening. Although it was getting dark, I could still see the bottom with the glasses on and didn't see any fish to note (some small bows and a couple of really small cutties). I didn't see what species were feeding on the surface, but based on their location I'd guess they were bows as well.
The water level was low with all the rocks on the west side of the bridge visible and I could easily walk across the river at that point. The east side of the bridge looks more promising with a few deeper pools which I'm going to try tomorrow.
As for the beach, the wife and I drove down to Pacific Playground and took a bit of a walk along the shore. Her blabbing something about going camping, and me nodding my head while looking for the tell-tale signs of fish. Alas, nothing seen and too much heard. I could "feel" the pinks were close and they can't be any more than 3 days away from starting to enter the rivers.
I'll be at the Oyster tomorrow morning from 9'ish to 11. I'll be the guy chucking feathers without waders.
