    Default Kamloops/Littlefort area??

We are driving back from vancouver to edmonton from a wedding this weekend and me and my dad are looking to hit some lakes in this area. We are experienced fly fisherman and we are looking to maybe hit Janice, Big OK lake, Community Lake, Knouff lake and maybe badger lake! We have 2 days and we are wondering witch lakes we should explore. We have everything, sinking lines and enough flies to last a lifetime! We are going to be stopping in littlefort fly shop and the kamloops fly shop.

    Any input would be great!

Just got back from 3 days in the Knouff lake area. Badger is a zoo!! Overcrowded and zero fish. Not crowded, but Community was producing almost no fish and all a pound and 1/2 or under. Didn't see any big fish on the shoals either. Not sure how Knouff was, but it lies between the other two. I'd say it was a waste of time in that area.

If I were you I would look at hitting lakes above 4500 ft. Tunkwa can also produce at this time of the year.

    Default Fish

I have had no problem at this time of year for lakes under 4500 ft, last part of July, all of august and september are slower. Early July has great sedge and dragonfly migrations/hatches along with damsels. So I'm not worried about that!

Hello bh flyfisher, I fish this area alot year round and have found that after July 1st rolls around the lakes above 4500ft tend to be much more consistently productive. The water temp. in the lower elevation lakes can make the trout lethargic, this is not to say that the bite will not turn on from time to time but your chances for success , I believe, will greatly improve above 4500ft. I just got back from a lake yesterday that was over 5000ft. & the water temp. was 63-64 degrees & the fishing was decent. As you can see by proff's report the lower elevations are not fishing great, even community which is about 4500.
The lakes which have bombers can be quite productive in the heat of summer , although it is still a bit early for that hatch. In any event I wish you the best of fishing & hope your angling experience is a good one! The kamloops fly shop can probably provide you with some better insight.

you could try duffy and dairy lakes, in early morning or evening fish.

Fished community about a week and a half ago in the evening. Had some luck trolling different leech patterns and the sedge was working towards the evening. All told we caught 4 and managed a nice 22" fish. Lot's of people there tho. :cigar:

    Default kamloops

managed to get out to knouff and badger because its all the time we had. Knouff was slow as ever but at least the fish put up a good scrap. Caught 3 in the 16-19" range on chronies and micro leaches and lost a hell of a fish on a dragonfly nymph.

Fished badger for one night and maybe for 3 hours. It was very good. Caught 3 immediately on chronies between 15-18" and then switched to a sedge and caught a beauty 20" on the dry fly! Tons of sedges hatching on badger along with boat loads of chronies. And tons of caddis on knouff.

Saw a huge fish being brought home from badger that was easily over 24" and it was caught on the fly. Not sure if your aloud to keep fish from that lake but i kept my mouth shut.

As for knouff everyone was keeping fish and the fish were out at the farthest island from the dock.
