    Default The Powderkeg Fishing Report

The Powderkeg Fishing Report for July 7, 2009

Here we go, Mountain Fest week. Lots of friendly folk here to enjoy our hospitality and one of the best music festivals in the world.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Big O.K. or Island lake is fishing as it should for this time of year according to Clint and his party.
Large fish cruising 3 feet or less of water. Action on small #18 olive/silver chironis. Some sedge action in the evening was had as well as some success with Gomphus dragons in and around the reeds and island.

I made it out to the “ T “ on Sunday afternoon. Most enjoyable. Launched the boat and headed up to some good looking water. My fishing partner, Steven, and myself were rewarded with feisty rainbows. I stuck with my Titanic Stones and Rubber leg Red Squirrel Nymphs and landed several nice fish. Steve switched up to a big Yummy Mummy dry fly and pounded up some good ones. A yellow bodied foam caddis also produced.

Lundbom was reporting good catches last week as well on chironamids and dragons. Pregnant shrimp and Tom Thumbs were also on the menu according to KSSM. You know who you are.

Nicola Lake or “ Old Faithfull ” as I am starting to call it, is still putting out some very nice trout to those fishing at the 35 to 50 foot range. Good Kokanee fishing as well I have been told by a few hard core anglers who come in to tell me of their success. The trout are eating the classics, Flatfish, Lyman Plugs and Apex. Kokanee are still on wedding bands of various sorts and spinner/tube or curly tail combos.

All in all the fishing is decent to good all over.

Now how to fit in the festival and fishing on my day off. Hmmmm……

The fishing sounds hot and I'm completely stoked about coming up there!!

If you're at the festival, drop by the DND tent and say Hi. I'll be the younger looking guy in a flight suit (there's only two of us). :yeah:

I'll definitely drop by the store sometime during the weekend. What are the hours?
