Mine is really basic.
Copper or gold bead head on a #8 or #10 hook. Tie in a tail of that black flash stuff. Tie in a tuft of purple or red maribou, then wrap one black maribou feather at the bead. Tie off and done. You can skip the added colour if you want. I like to make them between 3/4 of an inch to 1 1/2 inches. You really have to carefully pick your maribou to get short ones.
This pattern has a tendency to foul if you cast it but I dont mind. It breathes and moves really fluidly when it's fishing right. I tend to look at my fly after every couple casts for weeds any way, so it's just part of my rhythm.
