Default Need some advice on transom

Hi guys , I have decided to get the Lowe 1236 Jon boat but I will need to do a modification of some kind...The transom height is 15'' but the 6 hp Johnson I am going to use on it has a 17 1/2'' shaft therfor I need the transom to be 2 1/2'' higher..My initial thinking is to put a block in there because I really dont want to be drilling holes or clamping on some kind of bracket if I can help it. Have a recommendation or two that I could do?

    Thanks very much,

    Terry

I would give TnT Marine a call they do that type of customization all the time. I'm sure they could help you out one way or another!!

Hey Alevin , took the jon boat out today for a try out...It was more then I expected...The handling was superb! Even though im running an older 6 hp johnson I got er up and planing pretty good and the salesman said that I would be able to with a 6 , hmmm you think he wanted to sell me a 9.9? lol

I ended up getting the boat at Docksides in Kelowna but wasnt too crazy about the over all deal...We made a deal on pricing un be knowns that the price we agreed on wasnt what was on the invoice after all, they charged us over 100 bucks more then the deal so I have to get them straightened out on that and they better adjust it or everyone in BC looking for a boat will know where to NOT go lol

Anyways so if your looking for a strong, solid workhorse of a boat the 1236 Lowe wont dissapoint...At one point out on the lake we come across a cross wind which didnt phase the boat at all and crossed over waves that I figured to be about 3 feet high , the boat just skimmed through it like nothing..I was very impressed and making turns felt like I was on a highway going around a bend , nice and smooth and not sliding around but grabbing on like it was a road with a contour in it , like a race track how the track angles if you know what im getting at? Kelowna had 3 left since Friday so they might still have one or two but I would suspect they will sell quick....On the other hand Timberland Supply in Kamloops had about 10 in stock and have them on a Fathers day Sale for $1095.00

Let me know if you get one and if your running a motor on it..I would like to get a 9.9 or close to that and fly like a bird no doubt.

Funny that I should pop back into the forums about this time and see this. I am just in the process of replacing my old 12' sears gamefisher mod-V after someone took a liking to it and walked off with it.

I had decided on a flat bottomed boat as 99% of my fishing is on stillwaters and was currently agonizing over going with either the 1236 or a 1448.

The new boat will take myself, sometimes a fully grown fishing companion, and other times the wife and two kids. Mostly though, the boat just has me in it. We have a lot of lakes on the island that are restricted to oars, meaning that the 12 footer would be easier to move around on the lake not to mention that the 12 footer will be easier for me to move around (ie on or off trailer) alone. That being said, the 1448 would provide more room, and possibly more stability...

So, it was nice to see a good review on the 1236. I do have a 9.9 merc that thankfully wasn't attached to the old boat at the time of its theft and will be mounting that to the boat.

Do any of you see any issues with going with the 12 footer over the 14?
