is that a pontoon boat? i have a 38 pound thrust motor on my 9' fiberglass boat and it moves pretty good. most of the newer motors are pretty energy efficiant. just make sure you buy a good quality deep cycle marine battery and a good charger. if your just trolling the battery will last more then a weekend, but on full power the battery drains pretty fast. i only go on full power if i get stuck in a storm. they also have little solar panel things that you can hook to your battery to extend the battery life, but they are expensive but go on sale alot at canadian tire.

heres the charger i have. it charges overnight on the trickle charge, and has faster charge settings that i havnt tried as of yet. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows...%2BCharger.jsp

    Default Motors

minn kota is the most common brand out there.the maximizer feature on some models (maxxum or traxxis) help your battery last alot longer. there a bit pricey but worth it if you fish alot.

I would suggest that you look for a 38 maxsum (has the maximizer feature) that others have mentioned will save your battery.

I have a 55 and it pushes my 14' jon around with no issues.

    Thank you for advise guys.
Will look into getting 38 Minn Kota Maximizer future, with my budget will wait till they go on sale.
For Charger I got Nautilus one and looks like very similar and future as b man360 mentioned above.

    Another question.
For battery, I was thinking to buy costco group 27 because of price or should I go other direction of better
    battery or gel ones?

i only buy the sears diehard ones. ( kal tire is now exclusive dealer ) grp 27 $110.+ tax they've served me well. you have a digital charger which is good. ( overcharging kills batteries ) try to avoid draining your battery completly before recharging. bring batteries inside during winter months.

i dont know about gell ones, but for a normal battery make sure its a deep cycle. also, make sure you keep the acid level up in the battery. and chage the battery on a trickle charge (lowest charge rate on the charger) as it is easyer on the battery.

I purchased a new group 27 at edmunds battery in Langley, around $100, cant remember the exact price.
I trolled with it all last weekend and still had a "good" rating according to the motor.

I found discontinued Maximizer 33 at one of Canadian tire for great deal. Is it strong enough for 8ft pram? I am sure they are but how about 12ft Jon if I up grade later to fish with my kids?
