    Default Bearhunting

Has anyone enjoyed any spring success with bear hunts? Personally I have been too busy fishing to think about bears but on Monday evening I was anchored at the far end of Forest Lake and in the last hour before dusk I counted no less than 5 bears at that end of the lake. Makes me think that perhaps Williams Lake has a good population of black and cinnamon phase blacks. Either that or everyone in the Cariboo is fishing and not hunting.

Its funny you should say that about Forest, last year around the same time, at the far end we saw a sow and three very small cubs!! Lots of big bears here in the QCI but with deer season starting in a few days.......

Deer season? A few days? How good is that? I've still got 5 months until those hog Whiteys start showing themselves. Coincidentally there was a story in the winter edition of Big Buck called the Fox Creek Giant. I am fortunate enough to live in an area that others come to hunt.

Yes, you do have some huge Blackies. My brother used to be stationed in Masset and he doesn't hunt or fish, the fool!

The first bear showed up on our farm yesterday. A medium sized cinnamon bear. I think my dad forgot all about the damage they did to crops last fall because now he doesn't want to let hunters on. He likes having wildlife.

    Geoffvl,

Your dad's feelings are totally understandable. I have friends that ranch north of Tunkwa and until a few years ago they gave permission to a few select hunters to access their property but the disrespect became too much and that soon ended. Too bad really as the deer hunting on their land was second to none. Three years ago in one hayfield after a night of October snow I counted 65 deer.

Ya we've had some hunters that don't respect the land. Seems like please drive on the dirt road is hard to follow. We do allow a few duck and geese hunters each year so If anyone needs a place to hunt duck or geese you could let me know.
