    Default Nanaimo and Area Fishing

    Hello,

I am rather new to this site and Nanaimo and was wondering of good areas to fish for trout. I grew up in Prince George and have recently moved to Nanaimo and am looking to head on a few fishing trips this summer. I recently tried Green lake and caught two in just over an hour but nothing of any real size....

    Any help much appreciated. Thanks,

    Ted

Nanaimo has a number of good lakes to fish. Spider is probably one of my favourites in that area, although it's a bit of a drive. Long lake has a good population of rainbows and bass and it's easy to get to. Nanaimo Lakes is a Timberwest area with a campground and is also an excellent area to fish. If you have a boat or pontoon, all of those lakes will give you what you're looking for. You can never go wrong with a Doc Spratley in Spider (near the houses on the right hand side from the beach). Right now, guys are catching 15 fish an hour in Spider.

    Thanks 11th Warrior,

The doc has been a family favorite for fly fishing for years. How is spider for larger boat access? I have a canoe as a back up for the tough to get into areas. Do you know anything about Boomerang lake - is it worth the trip.

Spider has a "no powerboats" restriction (I just checked the regs).

All I know about Boomerang is what I can Google, as I've never been there; sorry.

You should also check out this link, with a plethora of lakes on the Island
