    Default chironomids

When tying chironomids should you always be using red ribbing?

I agree - many possible combos, but I always have at least a half dozen different variations on the red rib idea over different base body colours.

    and triple ribbed patterns !!!

not to mention that every pattern must be tied with & without red butts having red butts made up can save the day at times.

Being a new fly tyer myself, I've found a few things helpfull to know. The main types of chronie ribs are Red(most common), Silver, and Copper. If you tie those up in black, and brown bodies, 2 of each size 8-14, you should have the bare basics covered. Soon you'll have a few hundred different patterns in all sizes.

good call on those colours Tramp. if i remember correct your 4 main chironie colours are (main colour) Black, Brown, Green & Maroon however chromies (and variations of) should be added to that list. never underestimate a blue chromie either

I do use double or triple especially on Chomies to tone down the shine of fly (ex. black + some other colours) works good for me.

    Have question on hooks,
I mainly use TMC2302's but do you have any good hook recomendation on bit stronger wire?
