    Default TFO Deer Creek Switch

Has anyone out there tried this rod?

I didn't realize that TFO had a switch rod, and it appears that the famed Bob Messier was in on the design. I understand that lots of people really like Bob's blanks for building. I know the Beulah Switch is getting all sorts of rave review and is nearly in the same price point (well 100$US more for the beulah...) Just wondering what the concensus is, or why the TFO rod doesnt get any press...perhaps not any TFO dealers on this site

It may have something to do with the Canadian importer, everyone I know that wanted a TFO switch had to go to the states to get one. If you want feedback on the TWO switch rods go to Speypages or Washington flyfishing forum.

Nice rods and a piss poor Canadian importer.

    huh.
    will do.
I'm surprised thought since I have 2 TFO trout rods that I got in Canada, and I keep seeing them around at different shops in BC - mostly the 4 piece 5 and 8 wts.

i have casted a 5wt & 7wt Deer creek switch just recently and i can say compared to a Sage of the same wt's the rods performed extremely well. the only difference i noticed right off the bat was the Sage rods were just slightly lighter and i mean slightly however that might have been because they had different reels on them also

Im in the market for a switch rod now and im leaning towards the TFO 7wt for what i need it for, match it with a Skagit system and it will work great. Army & Navy sells these rods for $400 something (if i remember correctly) so yes they are available in Canada and i would assume any store that carries any TFO rods can get them in for you.

and might i add that im relatively new at 2 handed fly casting and these rods laid out long casts the first cast i did which i couldnt do with the longer rods i played with that day. Switchs are so light that it makes casting seem so easy to do which made me fall in love with one and want one for targetting salmon because casting a single hander all day gets tiring as we all know

I cast a 4wt deer creek switch yesterday with a 4/5 afs head. It was very nice. Even managed to hook into a lil cuttie to give it a bit of mojo straight off the bat :cigar:
