    Default good or bad change???

i just got the 2009-2011 freshwater regs and noticed a change that will probably make some spin casters/ people who keep fish really angry, The new regulation states that for region 2 all wild trout and char must now be released from all streams in this region, including from those streams that flow into tidal waters north of and including jervis inlet.
i myself think its a change for the better in protecting the fishies and i think it might result in less fishing pressure
What are your guys opinions on it?

I agree with you tbar, catch and release, catch and release especially the wild.
It frustrates me that part of the government says protect the fish (animals and environment) while the other says more dams, more pipelines more mines.

I just wish the aliens would follow that reg with us.

    I hope it helps.

    Default How do ya enforce?

I agree with catch/release of wild stock...and handle with care.
However, how will these reg's be enforced when there are so few enforcers?
Big areas and lots of streams to enforce...?
Will more staff be hired to cover - I doubt it.
    Poaching will continue
Fred makes a good point.....enforcing will have to be done by the compliant public/fishers.

Yay!! Now there's a law against me bringing fish home. Won't have to make up dumb excuses anymore for releasing them.

I think this is simply a penalty against law abiding fishermen. If they doubled the hatchery budget for this season, I'd be somewhat more ok with it. But noooo...they can't do that! Fewer hatchery fish coming into the system, and no wild retention means less and less fish on my table. This is without the dams they're allowing to be put in on the streams that could affect those wild stocks anyways, and far more drasticaly then us. Ugh.
I'll put it simply, I think this sucks.

    Too bad,
I do release almost all my fish, but when you are out camping there is nothing better than a freshly caught fish.
The more restrictions the govt placing on our sport the fewer people will take it up.
This rule is really just placed because the govt can't effectively patrol "our" waters.
It would be nice to have the costs of our licenses and tags and for that matter the fines imposed upon the resource to go back into the resource - but very little of it does.

I believe you are rite mkc, if only the gov. would use the monies collected from lic's tags fines and such for protection, enhancement and nurturing of our fish stocks and habitat, I believe we would have the best fishery in the world, bar none, rite here in B.C..But alas it would seem vast quantities of the monies end up in general coffers and other venues.

I think its downright hypocritical that the same government that is restricting fish retention under the guise of conservation, is allowing projects like the Bute Inlet power project, and the rest of the 'run of the river' power projects to go forward.
In my opinion this is just a sneaky way of keeping the majority of anglers away from streams and places that will soon be dammed and ravaged for financial gain. And with the majority of anglers seeking other waters, also the majority of negative publicity and activisimn.
I was in a local tackle shop yesterday, and they where saying liscense renewal was waaaay down compared to last year on March 31st.

ok...ok... this law was first thought of when people around here where bonking 5-18 lb cutthroats from small streams and slues. this made me mad so for 4 years i have been single handedly lobying to have this law put through. this law was first drafted by jim robrerts , who was our head cutthroat bio for the area. i brought him up and showed him a 10 lb par of spawning cutts. then i told him he could catch and kill them . which is why we pushed to have this put through. now years later it was put through by eian lund. this is a victory for trout in this regon.

i have worked hard for years ,in differant ways to protect our fish ,and there habitat. this ia a law that i can turn to my grand kids and say....''I did that ''
i tryed to get others to call and right letters ....but I did this. and it feels grate to have had a positive influance on our fishery.
