    Default salmon cutty mix

Once again I found a mix of cutties and salmon while flyfishing the beaches here on saltspring. To me it looked like some were imature coho, while others looked like small pinks. This was my first year flyfishing the beaches here as I am usually on the mainland. In the past 12 outings,I have been skunked twice. On a few outings I lucked into small schools of salmon which usually resulted in fast action while the tide was right.I was just wondering if it is common to find pinks and coho in the 15 to 20 inch range while cutty fishing this time of year?Jan and Feb have been pretty productive.Unfortunately I have to go back to the mainland for the next year.I am going to miss having good fishing all to myself as I will be back battling the crouds in mission.

    Default Blue backs

It's not uncommon at all. Most likely are coho or bluebacks. There used to be a blueback fishery in early spring. Fortunately people have smartened up and allowed the fish to grow to maturity.

    Default

It was all catch and release, and no fish were harmed!
