Default February Fly O' the Month.

We have decided that since it is a pink year in the south this year, that the fly O' the month will be......

    Saltwater Pink flies.

    Dun Dah Dah!

Smoke em' if you got em.

    Default Hakai Thorn

A Hakai thorn in the mouth of a beach pink. Its a very simple fly to tie- about as easy as they come. I like this fly, especially as you can whack out a whole bunch in no time!

Hook- straight shank, i prefer long shank size 6 - 10 but you can go larger and smaller if you like.
    Tail- mylar tube fibres
    Body- silver chenille
    Wing- pink bucktail or PB

    Default euphasid

These are a couple of versions of little euphasids
That I find are stellar for feeder pinks.
These fish are farther away from the stream mouth.

Some really simple ones. They worked well in the chuck mid-island.

If you use pink plastic as the body, make sure you put a layer of silver tinsel under the pink stuff to make it shine and glow!

If you go with a silver tinsel or holographic tinsel body- wrap 6 or 8lb mono over the tinsle to keep the shine but make the body nearly bullet proof without waiting around for epoxy to dry.

There are so many different kinds if plastic. I went super cheap-o. My local dollar store had bike locks with pink plastic around the chain, so for a buck plus PST & GST I got a lot of thin pink plastic which works as good as the stuff you get at a fly shop. You can use the chain to get down to winter steelhead

The "eyes" (regular bathtub style bead chain) will rust quickly, so I've tended to get away from those since the straight pink works just as well. Kind of like a big pink chronomid.

I've even thought about putting a strike indicator out there and fishing them in the same style. Anyone ever tried a "balanced" style flie to hang below an indicator?

    Default Hakai

This is the Hakai thorn, a better picture than above. I don't spent too much time making them all "pretty". Very simple.
