Default Fish Finder - Die Hard

I had two hours to spare this afternoon. The winds were blistering cold and insane, but the 650 Skagit topped off with an Electric Blue down and dirty dumbell tempation made short work of it. Cutting through like a hot knife in butter. Good thing the stretch of water was only 70 across, and I was fishing river right. My strong side. The ice kept building up on my guides, but a quick rod dip in the drink cured that. I had the whole run to myself. No one else in sight. It's the type of scenario that defines a true die hard. For a second I was alomst second guessing my intentions out there, Cast swing step, cast swing step. The mind is blank and I'm starring off at the mountains. Bang! I'm back to reality and lift up the rod tip. Something pulls back, and the heart instantly is up to 140 beats per minute. Two good head shakes and the fish comes right in. This isn't right. Then I realize what happened. I hooked a nice fat Dollie of about 20 inches. No pic this time. Didn't want to stress the little beauty more than I had to. I'll try again tomorrow morning.

Day 2 started out with a quick trip for some of Timmys best. Then off for a drive to the top end of the river to see what sort of action is going on. It seemed from Tamahi up stream the rods were packed in like sheep in the more easily navigated runs, trying to stay out of the nasty down river winds. From what I seen, there wasn't much room for a fly line to be swung up there. Heading back down I eventually found a favorite haunt mid river that was surprisingly empty. No one home it seemed after a couple of slow passes, and a few different offerings. I had no one behind me, so I figured I'd ease back a bit and take my time working through. Off to the truck to thaw out the waders below the knees. I figured what the hell I'll give it a go down on the windy frozen tundra. In short I lasted another hour in hopes of building on Saturdays false alarm. No love again.... Got to love it...

    Default Too bad......

........I was out in the snow and wind yesterday as well if I had known you were about.........

Oh well next time, fished from about 10-4 with a few breaks in the vehicle to thaw the frozen reel and the frozen extremities. Beautifull quiet day on the flow but no love from the fish!

Was out with the LS21307, got a nice new compact Skagit on it and it casts like a dream. So lite but plenty of power!
