Just as Pitt River was saved because of public involvement, we also do this for the Bute Inlet! One of the last pristine areas left and needs our protection!

On Tuesday, January 27 the BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) invites the public to an open house meeting on Plutonic Power's Bute Inlet independent-power project being proposed in near Powell River. This is your opportunity to comment on the draft Terms of Reference.
Plutonic Power Corporation is proposing building an enormous independent power project in the Bute Inlet. The project would link 17 run-of-river facilities and have a production capacity in excess of 1000 MW. In addition to the construction of roads to build and service each of the generation facilities, linking these generating facilities with the substation in Malaspina will require 443 km of transmission line.
The EAO open house meeting is being held at the following location:
Powell River Town Centre
4660 Joyce Avenue, Powell River
Tuesday, January 27, 2009
4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
At 7:00 pm the EAO will present on the process, followed by a presentation by Plutonic on their Terms of Reference for the Bute Inlet project. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the presentations.
The proposed project must be reviewed under BC and Canada’s Environmental Assessment Acts and obtain an environmental assessment certificate before any work begins.
Prior to the application for this certificate, Plutonic must provide the Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia (EAO) and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency with draft Terms of Reference, which outline the studies to be conducted and detailed information that will be provided with the application for the certificate. These draft Terms of Reference are now posted and available for viewing at the following locations:
* BC Environmental Assessment Office
* Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency

As an addendum to Rick's post.
With the meetings in the middle of nowhere not enough people can get there.
This would help.
Remember the Fire Marshall incident with the Pitt.
We need everyone out.
This will eventually reach every watershed on the coast if we don't get it now.

Subject: Bute Inlet Hydroelectric Project Open House
To: eaoinfo@gov.bc.ca
CC: env.minister@gov.bc.ca
Dear Mrs. Kathy Eichenberger,
I am writing you regarding the proposed Bute Inlet Hydroelectric
Project to express my concern about the planned open houses that will
be held January 27 to February 2, 2009. As the project is of a much
larger scale than the average and will result in a province-wide
impact, it is of the utmost importance and priority that the general
public is well informed and has easy access to the open house
meetings. The locations for open houses scheduled thus far are
inappropriate to the majority of interested public as they are located
in remote locations and require long travel times.
Please consider setting up a public meeting in Vancouver and Victoria
to accommodate the public interest and not leave concerned citizens out
of the process.
Sincerely,
< your name >
