    Default Head cement

I will be needing head cement soon.

The several bottles I have are all old and have mostly seen better days.

Anybody have one they just can't live without ?

Do you prefer water base or petroleum base?

    Acrylic, urethane, laquer or?

I have thinned one bottle for the initial coat so it soaks in well and locks the thread, and another regular strength to build it up.

    I love fly tying.

This is the stuff I have been using, with no complaints. It will work to cover eyes, with two or three coats and works great for covering the finished bodies, like Chironomids and minnow flies. from me! Any other stuff out there??

I use Zap A Gap for head cement. Although it always seems to be in short supply.

I used to use Wapsi head cement but found it turned my head's kinda cloudy. I use the Wapsi water based head cement and like it a lot better. Haven't tried any more expensive stuff.

One thing I found I didn't like about the Wapsi water based cement was when I was finished tying a comparadun and applied the cement the little bit that hit the elk hair made it sag foreword quite a bit.

The absolute best cement I have used is Veniard's Cellire Clear head cement. One bottle has lasted for several months and it does not flake or turn colour. I really can't believe how far one bottle goes. Bar none the best especially for spey and steelhead wet flies.

    What about Bennechi's head cement?
I heard this stuff is the bomb.
    Similar to Cellire.

i just use what i grab first usually. i have the hard as hull stuff which is great cause it has the brush built in, I also use Zap A Gap for heads only as it dries hard and will crack and flake over time. sometimes i will use Dave's fex cement if i wanna put a kind of rubbery coating on the fly for good durability (pays to buy very fine paint brush for this) and then there is the other things we all have around Sally's, plain old head cement and i have something else that has since lost its label  and i cant remember the name of it.
