join me up
Just thought I might make this warning/announcement here, but it could go as a seperate thread if the mods so wish. When I am tying flies for my own use, the first thing I do is crush the barb. I never fish barbed hooks, regardless the regs. When tying for swaps however, I don't de-barb, and I have never recieved de-barbed hooks (with the exception of some bead heads) in a swap. I mention all this because, for years I was in the habit of not checking for barbs when I was fishing (why bother, all mine were precrushed). I got checked on the Cowichan one May long, and was using a fly I had been given to try by another angler (still barbed). The only thing that saved me was the 2 full fly boxes I had in my vest that didn't have a single barbed hook in them. Still, I felt like seven kinds of fool that day.
