Trout Flies - a tier's reference
by Dave Hughes

While there is a book review section of the site, I thought I'd ask those who don't want to do a full review, if they could recommend a book or two that you could not do without, and that remains on your tying bench(unless you're reading it before bedtime...to your kids)
Hook me up. I have a Christmas list to fill out, and a birthday list a few months after so I need to know what to ask for!!![]()
What book on fly tying could you not do without?

The Fly Tiers Benchside Reference by Leeson and Schollmeyer
No patterns but lots of information on how to do any portion of the fly. If you don't know the technique this book will tell you how.
I don't know if there is any one book in my library that I could not do with out, but the one book I find myself constantly going back to these days is Steelhead Flies by John Shewey. An awesome book with excellent step by step photography and clear and concise instructional text.

I am on board with BC Speys on Shewey's book
Steelhead Flies
I just keep refering back to it.
Ditto for "Steelhead Flies" by John Shewey. Just bought it and look at it every night before I go to sleep. Its all you need if you fish for steelhead.
Also have "Spey and Dee Flies" by John Shewey but really all you need is "Steelhead Flies" as this also covers classic spey and dee flies and much more. In fact much of that part of the book is exactly the same.
Any of Les Johnsons books.
