dec cutthroat....yes today was a blast . got up at 5 and headed into the back country . we put in at first lite and had fish by 8 . a few 6-7 lb cutthroats and some 3-5 pounders. 1 farmed rainbow that was 4-5 lbs.
The eagle hit a 5-6 lb fish at the end of the day and could noy fly with it . he had to paddle his way to shore and haled it out ....wow what a site. got some photoes and vids of some of the fish landed 24 fish total

How do those Cutthroat fight, I have always known them to bull dog more then take long runs and jump like rainbows. Even the big fish they seem to give up very easily, but are beutiful to look at, and its good to know they are plentiful where you are. Are those fish that you catch any different? In my mind its hard to beat a 20+ inch rainbow on the 5 weight.

yes.. the thing is ,the best time to hit trophy cutthroats is in the cold water months when they can be slugish . but on a nice day they can take you to school ....but they are differant then rainbows for shure....but a 5 lb rainbow is a common fish.... a 5 lb + cutthroat is not . they are the cream my friend .

    Default My Largest Cuttie

The largest Cuttie I have ever caught was in the Big Qualicum River, November 1995. I was actually fishing for Coho in pool #23 when the rod was almost tore out of my hands. That of course was when I first arrived in BC and basically dry fly fished for everything...thinking that West Coast Salmon would take a dry fly willingly and often! The Sea Run Cutthroat was nearing the 6 lb. Range..my first reaction upon landing this beaut' was "Atlantic" because of all the spots ,soon realizing the Red Throat slits were tell tale...I have been haunted ever since!

Biggest ones I was fortunate to land was a 25" wild buck.
Next cast in the same spot hooked and landed a 23" wild doe.
Have caught several over 20". All gave a great fight.
