    Default New Project Boat...

Hi Guys!! I just picked up an old Princecraft that I am going to transform into the ultimate trout fishing machine. I sanded the aluminum hull and want to paint it olive color. Anyone know what kind of paint to use and where to get it?

I'm not sure where to get the paint but if remember correctly there is a special primer that needs to be set down before you paint aluminum.

    Hi

    Rick and yourself are correct.
Thoroughly sand clean and wash the aluminum surfaces. Be sure that there are no contaminants left behind by the stripping process. Purchase an acid etch "wash primer" from an industrial paint store.
A good high quality "marine" grade two component epoxy primer is best. After you spray the primer, and allow it to dry then you may spray a two component polyurethane top coat paint. Be sure to check with the paint supplier to ensure compatibility between the epoxy primer and the polyurethane top coat. Be sure that you are in an enclosed area with good ventilation before you spray.
Wear protective clothing, such as respirators, gloves, coveralls.

But my dad washed his with TSP then spray canned Krylon , simple , easy, goofy.

Cloverdale Paint, Lordo, Industrial Paint & Plastics etc..

    Default Nah

    Just use duck boat paint.
Hunters specialties markets the stuff I used.
Did my old scow up 4 years ago and it still looks great.
You might be able to find it at one of the hunting/fishing stores around or have them order it in for you.
It is flat paint and works great.
    Available in several colours.
I chose marsh grass tan. way nicer than run of the mill olive.

That rings a bell to me 2fly.
    Zinc Chromate is highly toxic.
It is really used for good adhesion and mostly to stop corrosion from salt water.
If memory serves me correct it was a US Navy product post WW2.
If in fresh water there are more suitable easier to use products.

I was actually thinking about tan as well. Where is the place you picked up your paint? I should post some pictures of the boat, it looks like hell right now!

    Default Where?

    Hey scoop.
I was working in the industry for a wholesaler at the time and ordered it directly, but check around the local shops.
Maybe Reliable or Italians as knotnot said.
If not perhaps the valley shops might have it.
PM me if you need more info.
