    Default Help Required

Over the years, I have tried to tie a decent Glo bug with no success.
Saw a video recently about it and followed instructions to the letter.
Tie down wool in center of hook.
Lift wool up and wrap around like a dry fly post.
    Trim one angle then another.
    The end result.
    Crap!
    What am doing wrong?
Love the yellow and black Glo Bug.

Omit the part where you wrap it like a parachute. Just ti a strand of one colour yarn to the middle of the hook shank. Tie a smaller contrasting strand on top of the first. be sure they are secure, whip finish in front of the yarn. Lift up on all strands and cut 1/4" to 3/8" long. Fluff them with your finger and you should have it.

    Default Tight

Try using three pieces of yarn.
    Or two and a half.
The 1/2 being the top piece which would be an eye if you use a contrasting colour.
    Use very strong thread.
Kevlar is best. You can cut your fingers before it will break,
Tie as tight as you can.
As Prof said, omit the parachute part.
Pull all of the strands up at the same time and cut with one snip of your scissors.
Remember the egg will be approximately 2 1/2 times the diameter of the length you cut.
You may have to trim a few strands off the bottom.

Good luck and post a pic when you get it.

    Default Bug yarn

That would be the stuff Brian.
    Big and fluffy.
Remember to bunch the yarn up very tightly as you tie it in.
Pinch between your fingers, two soft loops and pull tight.
If you use kevlar stop just before the hook bends

    Don't have any kevlar thread.
Wonder if spectra line would work?
It's very tough and is small in diameter for its strength.

Kevlar is ideal, but you can tie these with Danville 6/0 if that's what you have. I usually use 3/0 and they work just fine.

    Default Egg Foo

Just found out about this special new yarn called "egg foo" it is supposed to make tying glow bugs quick and easy.

Bought some the other day, I will try it and let you know how it goes when I get a chance to sit on the vice for a bit.

I have one more question to ask.
When tying the wool on the hook, do you run the wool along the hook shank ,across it or what?
Have seen photos of wool making an "X" across shaft.
Also need to fix my vise. See other thread.
