Default Weed guards on coho flies

Have any of you guys ever tried putting weed guards on your coho flies to prevent accidentally snagging chum?

I am going to give it a try, I will let you know how it works out!

    Default Sorry for my ignorance....

Rick what is Mason? A type of line I take it?

Thanks for the help, what type of coho flies do you tie with "doggie guards" I was thinking that more sparse patterns like muddlers may not work but bushier ones would?

    Default Mason

    Hard Nylon mono.
What style weed gaurds are you using Pat?
Loops or single strand hard mono.
    Or double strand mono.
I have used smaller weed wacker line for bass flies and it was OK.
    Tight lines

I use 50lb mono on my bass flies for weed gaurds
    and it works great.
I love hunting, golf and anything else that keeps others off the water.

Wonder if a Comet type fly would work.
Has the hook riding up instead of down.

Planning on tying loop guards, just need to make some time to sit at the vice!

Hi Jim, Comets tied bead chain on top of the shank do not ride hook point up they ride normal. Comets are a staple of mine and I normally tie them on Mustad 36890. If you are involved in the salt water coho fly swap I`ll be sending in my Green Comet pattern on Mustad 34007 so you can give one a spin...jeesh I better get my flies in the mail this weekend.

    Cheers
