    Default Tying Your Favorite Patterns

How many of your favorite flies do you have on hand ? My Purple Wooly Buggers and Irritators. Have about 500 of my secret flies tied and ready to go.

    Hi

Jim those are some great looking flies.
I seem to have a real softspot for woolys.
    Your purples ones rule.
Being a bit of a rook I tie about a dozen or so of a certain type but also have lots of doubles and a few singles.
I will try to post some , if the boss hands me her camera. (one of them fancy digital slr's)
I have created a Wooly Elvis....yet to be water tested.

Here is the dressing for the Purple Wooly Bugger.

    Thread: Red

Hook: Any longshank will do size 2/0-8.
    Wrapped with lead.

    Tail: Purple Marabou.

    Palmered Hackle: Purple

    Body: Dark Red Sparkle Chenille

Front Hackle: Purple with a little bit of fluff

The chenille may be hard to find in that color.
    Haven't seen it very often.
This fly works really well for coho and chum in the river.
When I first started tying, I tied up every fly type available, only later on to take them apart.
Was a waste of materials, so only tie what one I'll use.

Sure, it seems like overkill to tie so many of one pattern.
My supply of secret fly is around 500. When out fishing, I take a box of 100 with me.
On a day when to catch totals are around 30 fish, most of those 100 are lost or badly chewed up.
Using stronger materials has helped considerably.
A good example is Pearlescent Mylar cord for the body.
Looks good but is somewhat fragile.
Have found some that has what looks like fishing line woven into it.
This material is very stiff but works great for bodies.
It does last a lot longer than the standard Mylar.

You know, it's a typical fisherman who takes four hundred flies with him and maybe uses half a dozen.
Some days after fishing, my shoulders hurt because my vest has so much stuff in it.
Took 90 percent of gear out of vest and it still weighs 20 lbs.
Here is a photo of the chenille and the strong mylar cord.

    Default Chenille

Try the blood red krystal flash chenille from hareline.
If your local shop doesn't have it ask them to order it in for you.
    That stuff is the bomb.
Tons of very cool colours in two sizes.
