    Default New area

I hunted a new area for me yesterday.
Just might have to go back.
    I saw ( in order )

1 Mulie buck for a split second in really thick pines, the wind shifted and he scented me at approx. 20 yards. Jumped out of his bed and gone. Never had a chance for a shot.

1 rabbit at 30 feet. I missed! Quite literally parted the hair between the ears with the .06. Better high than low!

    1 mulie doe

2 moose. Cow and calf. calf was a button bull. Having discussions as to whether it counts as a spike bull. I passed on it.

3 whitetail butts, not as Ninja like as I thought I found a nice timbered ridge in between cut blocks that were 4 or 5 years since planting that looked good and hiked the top. I hadn't gone 150 yds and I heard a snort and stomp and then all I could see were white flags and brown butts jumping through the pines.

2 mulie does. just at last light. I couldn't wish bone on them no matter how hard I tried.

Oh ya, didn't bring a grouse gun as I wanted to concentrate on the deer.
I saw approx. 14 ruffed grouse. It is worth going back just for that!

Nothing down, but a great day in the bush by myself. Good to have alone time once in awhile.

Your making me jealous. Thats one of the main reasons I want to hunt. You go places your never normally would. Thats why I love fly fishing too!!

Good thing you didn't shoot the moose. Calfs with buttons are illegal.

I was hunting my secret spot deep in the bush last weekend for deer #2 this year. Saw a spike in the thick pines, lowered my scope to his chest, decided not to shoot for a spike. I raised my scope back to his antlers in case I missed something, then another buck appeared directly behind him. I went to his brisket, darn the spike was right in front of him...raised the scope back up and a 4 point walks out behind him!!!! Oh please oh please move you two smaller bucks... but the 4 point was smart (as they always are) and ran away using the other two as a shield.

Its funny how even if you dont shoot you feel you've had a really successfull day!
