Hi Pat,
the combos are endless.
On the Bulkley a Blue Moon is Light blue over black..... deadly.
Try a Winters Hope popsicle... Very nice.

Hey guys I am a newby fly tier and someone was nice enough to teach me how to tie these great flies. I am having lots of fun playing around with color combos.
Some of my favorites so far for chum have been purple/pink and chartruse/pink.
Do any of you guys mind sharing some of your favorite color combo's for popsicles and what applications you use them in?
Thanks!
Pat

....you got that right! That is why I figured a topic like this could help narrow it down a bit for us rookie tiers.
Thanks for the Blue Moon idea, sounds good. What type of colors is the "Winters Hope" done up with?
Yellow
Orange
blue
purple
You could put a touch of olive between the orange and blue,
or a very sparse overwing of bucktail or polar etc.
The original has a few strands sandwiched between the orange and yellow hackle tip wings.
A very effective fly.
Tie one up and post a pic for us.![]()
Try this Pat.

I love the Winter Hope as a conventional fly - never have seen it as a popsicle
sounds very interesting
Thanks

Here you go.
I call them Featherdusters and the coho and chum really go after them.
They are made with marabou wrapped like a hackle.

...thanks for the good ideas guys. Don't have any blue yet so I will pick some up and try that out, looks like a good combo Fred.
Jim, nice look popsicles as well!
Hi Jim
Is there anything on the hook under the marabou ?
Any sort of tinsel or flash or even lead?
thanks

Generally there is nothing under the marabou.
I will sometimes put silver or gold tinsel under the marbou.
It just makes me feel good.
A few strands of flash in the fly somewhere doesn't hurt either.![]()
