I heard the Muddler Minnow is a good go to for this.
Not too sure though.

I was fishing a local lake today and catching sveral fish in the 1lb range, which to me is a decent size, but when I got to shore some locals said that this lake contains fish up to 5lbs. I was using a black wolly bugger in a size 6 and having good results. I guess my question is will these larger fish be going after bugs like my wolly bugger or would they be more likely to strike a large fly that imitates a small rainbow? If this is the case does anyone care to share some patterns used to imitate small rainbows.
Thanks

i think it depends on the lake and which fish are in there. mostly i just keep catching little ones until a big one finally grabs onthey are the best surprises.
I have found the bigger fish are smarter and feed in the morning (dusk) or closer to night and even in the moonlight while there is less predators out to eat them. they come very close in to shore during these time also which makes casting to them even easier which is nicesometimes smaller flies are the ticket to get the big ones also.
I fished at a lake years back catching lots of smallish fish and had my lest fly (in that size) torn apart so i tied on a smaller one (same pattern) and first fish was double the size of what i had been getting :yeah:
