    Default Spey hackle

    I found these feathers on the bank of a river- just need to get good at tying spey flies, then i can use them!

    Any tips tying with them?

    A few years ago, I saw some for sale at 79 cents PER feather.
    That's a great find. Could use schlappen hackle as a substitue.
    Don't know much about tying with spey hackle.
    Found a dead eagle once and was going to take some feathers but decided
    not to.
    Good thing. I would need a permit to own them?

    I asked my dad if he or gramps ever used Heron Hackle.
    He said they would use it for the Blue Duns they used to tie.

    I would suggest practicing with a substitute first.
    Blue Eared Pheasant
    Other "Spey" Hackles.
    Check John Shewey's books on Steelhead Flies and Spey and Dee flies.
    Both top notch.
