Default dry fly sea run cutties

beach fishing for cutties today. They seemed like they would devour any of the regular cuttie flys so I was thinking it would have been perfect for fishing the dry fly fishing I've heared can be succsesful from the beach. I've never done it before and I was woundering if anyone could tell me about the technique. You chuck it and let it sit like on still water, or skate it, twitch it or what. Probably a combo of all the above but any way, any tips would be appreciated.

    thanks

Yeah, I've heared poppers can be pretty fun fishing too, I'll definately have to try it. I was fishing at the mouth of Mohun creek in Campell River.

Surface fishing for SRC is a gas! Your hookup to rise ratio with searuns will probably be low but atleast you will see them. I recently went out with a friend who fished a sinking line. We never saw any fish rolling and did not get a single tug. I went to a gurgler on top and had a half dozen rises in 30 minutes. Meanwhile there were no other fish showing and my buddy still did not have a hit subsurface. Of all those rises I did not even prick a fish but it was exciting.

I had a little experiment myself with them a couple of weeks ago. I had one hook up on my first cast, but that was it. The next four strikes came pretty quickly, but were so inaccurate that a hook up was out of the question. Your right though, it's an adrenaline rush. One came clear out of the water about a foot! I wanted to land some though, so after about half an hour of missed fish I put on a bloody nose. They liked that even better and I only missed a few. The poppers definately earned a spot in my box though.

What size/color gurgler were you fishing? It's one of my favorite flies, but I use it more on the East Coast than my BC fishing....

    thanks!

Gurglers were size 6 and 8 with a green foam back and crystal or silver chenillie body.
