looks like a Coho blue variation to me. the blue might be Calf tail instead of polar bear. I use the calf tail when i cant get polar bear hair, they basically look the same though.

I was given the coho fly shown in the picture and am wondering what the name of the fly may be. Does anyone have any thoughts on it.
The wing on the sample appears to use a dark blue synthetic hair beneath some blue polar bear, a couple of strands of flashabou and finally some black, possibly black bear. It has a chartreuse tag, a medium silver tinsel body and a fine copper rib.

Thanks Hook. I wondered if this was a coho blue, but don't have the pattern for it.
Does any one have the pattern for the original tie for the coho blue? I believe the pattern is a Haig Brown one.
It could also be a variation of a Kelsey's Hope which Professori posted in the Coho fly swap thread. I believe it looked quite the same.
im not sure if the ones in the fly shops are the original pattern or not but the ones they sell have blue/green/white polar bear wings, with a flat silver body or the rougher silver stuff(cant remember name)
here is the link to Prof's tie

his fly resembles what you have there quite a bit.

somebodies acid trip on a hook.
Most likely a bastardization of a Kelsey's Hope though IMHO.
Looks like a good, blue, coho fly.
Who cares what it is called if it works!
Tie up your version of that version and post 'em up in the fly gallery.
Hi, guys.
This is one I tied up last night.
The body is made of silver lame cord.
It's two stand wrapped together and is very strong.
Also use it for the body of this egg fly.
The cord can be purchased from a craft store in silver or gold.

Thanks guys. I found Haig Brown's coho blue in Art Lingren's book Fly Patterns of BC. The one that I have is definitely not a coho blue (or it is heavily modified). I chuckled when I read the pattern for HB's fly. Where does one find heron hackle sprigs?
Hey try Blue Eared Pheasant.
It is an excellant sub.
There is also some spey hackle out there that will suffice as well.
The Canadian Tube fly company does have some Heron Sprigs...in various colours of course...and we do have a few samples at the store...
