    Default Coloured Hooks

    Hi

I have a small surplus of those red coloured hooks in my tackle box.
    They are Gamakatsu octopus.
Does anyone use these for egg or trailer types ?
Is the colour a bad idea for flies ?

I use those hooks for trailer hooks or for tying Glo bug (ish) flies when i need an egg pattern and dont have any left. they make the eye on the gammy hooks very small so they are a pain to use as trailer hooks though

    Default Size?

    Depends on the size.
    They work fine for eggs.
    Sometimes colour is good.

    Default Light weight

The Gamakatsu hooks are great for trailers...from a size 2-8...Red,Black or Silver. I like the red version...what is particularly good about the gamies is that their weight is very light yet they are Strong. Being light weight keeps the hook in line with the fly and material during a swing typically...a heavy hook will actually hang down below the body of the fly and cause it to look unatural and track funny. You could probably use a red gami as a blood worm in some of the lakes! And I know Sockeye will hit on Bare hooks in the Salt Water.
