    Default Glo bug hooks

I'm tying some glo bugs and some website directions call for hooks size 8-14. Are these strong enough for salmon? Or do I have to buy special hooks for them.

Just discovered there are egg hooks. Are they strong enough for salmon though in the smaller sizes?

If you use a quality hook (TMC, Daichii, etc), the hooks will be plenty strong for their intended purpose. My trip to CR tomorrow is going to be a bit of R&D and I was going to use some pink/orange glo bugs in size 12 on the pinks. I'll let you know how they work out. From everything I've read here, at BCFR and through Google, the smaller hooks are fine for steelhead, etc. and those fish get big!

just cause your tying a glo bug small doesnt mean you cant use a bit bigger hook. I mean guys drift fish 2/0 hooks with tiny tuft of wool. why cant we do the same with glo bugs?

if you get the fish in the mouth then tiny hooks will work just fine, only problem is that when the fish stack up in certain places you do foul hook the odd one which might mean broken or lost hook.

The best hooks you would want to use for eggs are made by TMC(Tiemco)

    TMC2457
Down eye, 2X Heavy, 2X Wide, 2X Short, Forged, Bronze.

Generally you would use a size 6 for that application! They are 2X heavy so they are stong enough for salmon. This hook is also used for various salmon patterns, like flash flies.

I like them, all my eggs are on this hook! The majority of all commercially tied egg flies are tied on this style of hook.

    Default Tmc 105

The Tiemco 105 is their standard egg hook.
    Short shank
    wide gap

    Excellant hook!
    Tight lines
