    Default Oval tinsel

Lately I've been replacing using wire with oval tinsel. I find it much easier to work with. Right now i'm tying the elk hair caddis and tying down the hackle with tinsel is much easier I find than wire. It's also lighter than wire. Just wondering if I should be using wire for some special reason.

in my tying book it says to use Oval tinsel on the Elk hair Caddis I also like tying with the tinsel more than wire. wire is great for chronies and salmon flies though

    Default wire

Wire is probably smaller in diameter for a less flashy flash.
Whatever works for you is what is best.
On some flies the core of the tinsel may soak up some water and play with floatabilty a bit. Or not.
Just try it and see what happens.
Let us know how it works out.
