no idea whats going on theresure sounds weird. unless you have tied a rib or something around it i dont see how that would happen. and even then you can use a needle to "pick out" the hackle from underneath
which can be tedious

Hi
With my new attempts at dry flies , hackle seems to give me grief.
When I finish the fly and look down it the hackle seems to be missing in some areas.
For example missing in the 1 to 3 o'clock and 7 to 9 o'clock.
Material or the operator ?

Hi knotnot.
Make sure when you wrap your hackle that each turn is in front of the last and not binding down any fibres.
That is probably what has happened.
If you wrap back then forward the scenario you told us can happen.
Good luck.
Post us a pic or two and we can help you better.
and thats exactly the reason why i always use hackle pliers to wrap my hackle. ALOT more control over what your doing and you can also see without your hands in the way![]()
Thanks guys.
I will take a pic when the boss lets me get my paws on her camera.
