Black and blue has always been my go to pattern for nookies! Big and long full of flash! Chartreuse can also be effective in the right environment. The size of the flies will depend on the the river, water clarity mostly! The cleaner the water the smaller the fly, if the river is colored, glacier or runoff, you would need bigger darker flies!! You can never have too many patterns so experiment with all shape, sizes and colors and you will have success!!
