Default Salmon Lake .. is this a good fishing spot?

I am planning to spend the July long weekend up at Salmon Lake. Does anyone know the lake and how the fishing is?

    Any feedback is appreciated.

I assume you are talking about Salmon lake on Douglas Lake Ranch?
If so, the algae bloom will probably be in full bloom by then, best bet is to fish chironomids, or pheasant tail nymphs on a full sink (type 3 or greater) for that time of year. you just need to get your fly below the algae and you can have some success.

Last year we were there in mid-May and had some great success, the year before that we were there in July and it was much slower.

Also, be warned, the wind picks up there in the afternoon.

    good luck!

    Default Salmon Lake

Hello, been fishing that lake every june for 15 years, great fishing then, in july the bloom is geating thick, just to let you know that it's a FLY FISHING LAKE ONLY! no use of flat fish like I seen in another posting that was illegal my friend, good thing you didn't got caught, the fines are heavy. The lake is posted fly only. In that lake yellow body flys are good. Like yellow careys number 10's 1 extra long on a 75980 hook, also damsels are good. Also red and black carey's, and leeches. The best area is to the top end on the right side of lake by the big rock, the other end has little size trout. they run about 10 t0 20 inches there. The early mornings and just before dark are best, after 9.00 in the morning you are wasting time out there, then picks up late in the afternoon, caution it can get very windy ou there so please be careful, good luck.
