I've been asked if I want to purchase a Sage 7100 but the only problem is, neither one of us know what it's worth.

I've done some Googling but can't find much on the value of the rod, other than a few posts from 2003 which were in the $180 range. Reading some reviews, I know I want this rod as my Saltwater rig but I want to give the gentleman a fair value. It's an RPL rod (not the RPL+) and if anyone knows anything else about them, or an approximate value I can offer, I'd be very interested in hearing from you.

Hello everyone, I have been a fly fisher for most of my life. I grew up in the Kootenays and have fished for trout exclusively with exceptions of land lock Kokanee and Dollys. I have lived on the coast for the last five years and am starting to get an itch to catch some salmon. I don't think I would be a big fan of standing on the shore of the Fraser with the other 100 people trying to snag/flossing a salmon. I am not sure if that is the only way to go about catching a nice big salmon and if it is I guess I will give it a try  but I am also not sure what kind of gear I would need. I would prefer to be able to catch a nice salmon on a fly rod but all I own is a 6-7 wt and I don't think that would cut it? Basically I am looking for any pointers on getting into salmon fishing.

Thanks Nic.

After having company the entire month of August (that's a sympathy plea) the wife and I are heading for the Cariboo Chilcotin area for R&R. We've never been there. We are self sufficient tent campers. We have both kick boats and a canoe. We'll be leaving within 5 days. We are dedicated fly fishers. Many but small fish are no joy. My questions are: What lakes do you recommend? Flies? Canoe or kick boats? (We prefer the canoe but want to catch fish) Lake side camping?
Thanx

I have one day in mid September to fish in the Victoria area whilst there on business. I need an area to fish for about 6 hours total, that's all I have. That's time on the water, and I'd like to spend as little time in the car as possible. So that would mean 2 hours max drive, one way, from Victoria.

I'd sure appreciate some advice on a stream where I could walk and wade.
Thanks.

Been on this site for long time but never post, but for whatever reason decided to today. Anyway, cuttie question for everyone. I`ve been fishing for them quite a bit for the past few years, for the most part done quite well, and have caught quite a few fish up to 18 inches. For me thats a pretty respectable fish, and im never complaining about hooking into one of those. But i have yet to see or hook into anything that was any bigger. For me that 20 inch sea run is kinda the holly grail, but it seems to be pretty hard to come by.

SO. Wondering if anyone has had much experience with sea runs on the island over the twenty inch mark

Maybe they are out there, but most of my fishing is done on one of only a few beaches or rivers. Maybe i need to find some new fish

Got any tips for fishing Kanaka Creek, Maple Ridge?

So there is a creek less than 5 minutes from my house, which apparently has good fishing. Found this on the web:

Kanaka Creek is one of the healthiest sportfishing channels in the North Fraser Valley. Steelhead, sea-run cutthroat trout, and chum and coho salmon are all found below the 240th Street Bridge where a fish-counting fence is located. Angling is not permitted upstream from this point. A provincial freshwater fishing licence is required on this section of the creek and a federal tidal-fishing licence is needed to fish the Fraser from the mouth of the creek.

So...

Apparently in November the Coho swim up there, and you can keep 1 hatchery marked Coho per day. That sounds awesome, but it's September.

I'm wondering what I could catch there now? I'm thinking of starting at the 240th street bridge and working my way downstream from there. I would like to catch some trout. Can I expect to find trout there?

Can anyone offer any advice on fishing this creek? Best time of day, good (dry) flies to use, good spots to fish?

Thanks in advance guys!

Noob needs help - Got a couple old fly rods and a reel, want to get a new line

Hey guys,

Total fly fishing newbie here. I've got a couple old fly rods and a reel that were handed down from my dad. I would like to get out and try fly fishing but I'm thinking the 25 year old fly line is due for an upgrade. I've been doing lots of reading and watching videos on youtube. I think I've got the basics down, know what knots to use, etc, but I could really use some advice on choosing a new (low priced) fly line.

Here is what I've got:

A fly/spin pack rod:

Eagle Claw Trailmaster
No. TR601 - 6ft9in (206cm) Spin/Fly
Line size 4-10 F7 lure wt 1/8 - 1/2 oz

I've also got a 2 piece graphite fly rod:

Fenwick Woodstream
HMG Graphite rod 9' long - 8 weight
(HMG GFF-908)

Ye old'e fly reel:

(It's not letting me post a picutre, because I don't have 5 posts. Remove the spaces to view)

h t t p://imgur.com/QJBp6l.jpg

So the pack rod is a 7 weight and the graphite rod is an 8 weight. After doing some reading it sounds like I want to go with a weight forward floating line. I'm thinking a 9' leader (but please tell me if I'm wrong).

Question is, which rod should I be using, and which weight line should I be using?

What color? Is that just so you can see the line, look cool, or does it make a difference in fishing?

Also, anything I need to know about buying backing line, or are they pretty much all the same?

Any recommendations in the low-end of the price spectrum? I just want to go out and play fly fisherman, not spend a fortune on getting the "perfect" setup.

Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I would like to fish trout in streams, rivers, creeks, sloughs, etc.

I just picked up a fly rod and I'm looking to get out there. I don't have a boat or any sort and to be honest, I have no real idea what I'm doing. I was hoping someone could direct me to somewhere where I could go out and do some shore 'fishing', which I'm sure will be more like "wave rod around in the air and tangle the line".

Frankly, accessibility and proximity are a lot more important to me right now that good fishing.

I'm in Abbotsford, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
