• Bronze Bomber Chironomid

    Hook: Tiemco 200R size 12
    Thread: black 8/0
    Bead: black 1/8
    Rib: small red wire
    Abdomen: bronze flashabou (2 strands)
    Thorax: peacock herl
    Gills: white poly yarn
Adhesive: Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails

Instructions: Tie in a small length (half inch) of white poly yarn at the head of the fly for the gills. Whip finish and cut the thread. Slide the bead on the hook and re-attach the thread just behind the bead. Add small red wire and continue wrapping the thread and build up a nice tapered body. Secure in the flashabou just behind the bead. Wrap the flashabou down to the rear and back up to the bead and secure. Counter wind the rib and secure behind the bead. Coat the abdomen with Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails for added durability. (Tip: I like to do this before adding the peacock herl to prevent the adhesive from potentially ruining the thorax.)

After a few minutes, take one strand of peacock herl and secure in by the tip. Make a few turns to cover the thread wraps behind the bead. Whip finish. Trim the gills to size.

Tip: Also try tying this fly with a white bead head (no gills required).
