British Columbia Fly Patterns - Tryityoulllikeit, Tied by Gary Harris

Hook: Tiemco 5263 (3X long nymph) #8 -10
Thread: Green
Tail: Yellow Saddle
Body: Green Flashabou
Rib: Large Gold Wire
Wing: Yellow Saddle or Schlappen
Eyes: Green glass bead

Instructions: Lay down a good thread base from hook eye to hook bend. Strip a clump of fibres from a saddle hackle or schlappen feather and form a sparse tail about ½ the length of the hook shank. Tie in a length of gold wire to use for the rib. Tie in 4-6 strands of green flashabou and wind tightly forward to a point about ¼” back of the hook eye. Counter-wrap the gold wire forward to the end of the flashabou and tie in. Measure a clump of saddle or schlappen fibres to extend back to the ½ way point of the tail and tie this in where you finished the rib. Prepare eyes by taking 2 small green glass beads and stringing them on a length of 25# mono. Melt the end of the mono with a flame to form a small ball. Once it has cooled slid the beads to the melted end of the mono. Melt the other end of the mono so that it forms a ball about 1/8” away from the 2 beads. You should now have a set of green glass bead dumbbell eyes. (I usually make up 20 or so pairs at a time.)
Tie in the eyes (figure-8) behind the hook eye, leaving enough room to form a neat thread head. Whip finish and add a drop or two of glossy head cement. This fly sinks at a fairly slow rate, so is best suited to slacker runs. I have tied this with red flashabou and eyes as well and it also takes coho fairly well.
