British Columbia Fly Patterns - Pale Yellow Comparadun, Tied by Gary Harris

Hook: Tiemco 100 # 12 – 18
Thread: Black #6
Tail: Bleached Moose Body
Body: Scintilla Primrose Dubbing
Wing: Deer Body

Instructions: Lay down a good thread base on the hook shank. Run thread back to hook bend and form a ball of tying thread at the hook bend. Stack and measure 6-10 moose body hairs the length of the hook shank and tie in over the ball of tying thread (this will cause the hairs to flair). Wind the thread back to a point 1/3 back of the hook eye. Stack 20 or so deer hair fibres so the tips are even. Measure deer hair to the length of the hook shank and tie in at the 1/3 point with tips pointing forward. Stand hair upright and build a substantial thread dam in front of the wing. Once the wing is standing up well and the thread is still in front, fold 2/3 of the hair back towards the tail and take a thread wrap between the remaining 1/3 and the folded portion. Release ½ of the hair you are holding back and take another thread wrap behind the released hair. Now stand all hair upright and take 5 or 6 wraps behind the wing to form another thread dam. Wind the thread back to the tail tie-in point. Form a tight dubbing loop and wind forward to the eye of the hook. Build d the dubbing up around the wing base to form a thorax. Build a neat thread head and whip\ finish. Fan out the wing to about 160°. When I am fishing the upper Skagit, I usually start the day off with this fly. Often I don’t change to anything else!
