British Columbia Fly Patterns - Red Ribbed Ice Cream Cone Chironomid, Tied by Kevin Raffle

 

Hook: Size # 10 - 12 2457 Tiemco
Thread: Black 8/o Uni thread
Head: White Bead head for the gills
Body: Black 4 Strand floss or Acetate floss for the body
Rib: Red Ultra wire for the ribbing
Thorax: Peacock Hurl

Instructions:

  1. Slide Ice cream cone bead to the eye of the hook.  The bead not only acts as a weight, but also imitates the gills of a Chironomid.

  2. Tie in floss and ultra wire at the heal of the hook for the body and ribbing.

  3. Wrap the floss to the 3/4 point of the hook then follow it with 4 to 5 wraps of the ultra wire. (be sure to leave enough room to tie in the Thorax.

  4. at the 3/4 point of the hook tie in Peacock Hurl for the Thorax. Whip finish.
