Pacific Angler - Introduction to Chironomid Fishing
with Mr Trevor Welton

It is widely known that chironomids are the number one food source for trout in BC’s prolific lakes. Therefore it should be no surprise that to be a top stillwater angler you need to have a solid understanding of the chironomid life cycle and the flies and techniques used to imitate them. That being said surprisingly few anglers have taken the time to become true masters of this discipline. Those that have are the ones we see on the lakes catching the largest fish and having the most consistent fishing.

» Harrison Cutts, April 27, 2008
Story by Fred Watts, AKA Phearless!

Yesterday was a typical fishing day........Not! Rick and Ribwart were at a birthday bash for you know who the night before. The plan was for Rick to call me in the morning and we would go from there. Well at 9:30 ish I thought the sleep in should end for the others. Ribby was getting out of bed and heading over and then we were going to pick up Rick and head to Harrison Lake for an afternoon of chasing cutties. We got to Ricks around noonish, plenty early Then stop for gas, coffee, sandwiches and beverages, to the lake. Dumped the boat in and headed up to The Bay. You know the one, with the pilings, Pendlington did a show there once. About 35 minutes later we were cruising the bay looking for fish.

» A first, of sorts, twice and a thoroughly enjoyable day...
Story by Adam Kurk, AKA Ribwart!

Looking towards the beach the anglers weave their way through the last few trees along the trail, their eyes riveted on the fast rushing water, their ears in tune with the fantastic sound of a river flowing by oblivious to their intentions... Spey rods in hand, they make their way to the waters edge to take a look at what they had ahead of them..."Looks like there's just the one guy up there", he thought out loud hopefully..."That's our run...", the angler pointed, and the anticipation began to build...Noticing an angler working the tail of a nice long run, the anglers made their way down the last little jaunt to a pool neither had fished on the spey before...Noticing just one other angler, one of those dreaded "gear types" working the run to what seemed to be no avail, they voiced a quick hello and g'mornin' and made the long walk up to the very top of the run. Taking a breather and a moment to look around and settle down they chose their starting point.
